For the procedures and the costs of obtaining light  license in the Emirate of Sharjah, please follow below:

Register through Sharjah driving institute branches or login the website www.sdi.ae and submit the required documents and pay either the minimum or full fees.

All students wishing to obtain a license to drive a light bus in the Emirate of Sharjah should register for 20 training courses.

Lectures and theoretical test

lectures are theoretical classes through which trainees are introduced to the important parts of the vehicle, how to be prepared for driving outside and inside the vehicle, the main international traffic signals, how to use the tracks, the preventive leadership basics and the factors causing accidents using modern teaching methodologies which prepares the trainee for the practical training after passing his theoretical examination.

Theoretical lectures are given in separate halls at different times that suits all men or women in three different languages: Arabic, English and Urdu.

Duration of lectures

Five theoretical lectures are held in one day and the trainee can choose to attend these lessons in two periods:

  1. Morning: 8am to 1pm.
  2. Evening: from 2 pm to 8 pm.

Theory Test

After the trainee completes the theoretical lectures, he will undergo a theoretical examination using the computer system, where he can choose between three languages (Arabic, English or Urdu).

And for those trainees who are illiterate, they can attend the exams by listening to the questions through a system which reads the questions in three languages as well.

The main points of the theoretical examination:
  1. 25 questions in total.
  2. The minimum correct answers required for success are 18 questions.
  3. The duration of the test is 20 minutes.
  4. Free examination fee for the first time, and in case of failure, the trainee will have to pay the exam repitition fee (AED 50).

Topics Questions:

  1. Traffic signals.
  2. Use of paths and intersections.
  3. Accident factors and how to avoid it.
  4. General questions about laws and traffic safety.
  5. Clips that show the correct and incorrect behaviors.

Required documents:

  1. ID photocopy +(Origin).

Applicant should be eligible for obtaining driving license in terms of profession( profession should be among prohibited ones

Practical lessons

The practical training in light vehicles includes three stages. The first stage is the internal training which takes a place in a wide and advanced field inside the institute where the trainee can perform all various types of traffic operations and then he undergoes the preliminary examination inside the training yard. in case of success the trainee goes to the next stage which is training on the driving in the city and dealing with the traffic on road, then the trainee is evaluated and in case trainee succeeded he will continue his training to prepare for the final examination.

Training class duration :40 minutes.

Inside Parking Test

This is the first practical examination of the student, which takes place in the internal arena of the Institute. The examination focuses on (use of the vehicle, rotation to the right and left, U-turn, moving from one path to another, back long distance). The trainee must succeed at these stages so that he can move on to the next stage of external training (city).

Traffic inspection fee is AED 300.

Final road check

Testing driving on the road is the last stage which qualify the trainee to get UAE license.

Main points considered during the test:
  1. Vehicle use.
  2. Entry and exit positions.
  3. the Concentration during driving.
  4. Proper reaction in the road.
  5. right and left rotation.
  6. the transition from one path to another.
  7. passing vehicles and returning to previous track.
  8. the Entry and the exit of roundabouts.
  9. U-shape rotations.
  10. Safe driving.

The Prerequisites for the final road examination:

Pay all fees and dues.
  1. Pass all previous training and examinations
  2. The traffic file should be valid.
  3. Present the original emirates ID before starting the exam.
